Country Houses
The first example, recently built near Bruges in a classic eighteenth-century style, is based on a bishop’s country seat from 1750. Next to be presented is an exclusive new country house in the green belt around Antwerp, which is based on Little Thakeham, a famous design from 1902 by the English architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. Finca La Carrascosa, situated in Spain near Jerez de la Frontera (Seville), is a striking restoration project carried out by a Belgian couple who are interior specialists. A historic farmhouse in the southern Netherlands, transformed into a contemporary country house in magnificent natural surroundings, has been refurbished by a Belgian interior decorator. A stately country house in southwest Flanders has been renovated in a very serene and understated manner: a fascinating mix of classic architecture, contemporary interior design and modern art. A house in Flemish Brabant dating back to 1642 with dépendances from the nineteenth century has been thoroughly restored to become a modern home. An authentic mas in the Provence has been restored with a light touch and refurbished in the local style. The book closes with the masterly restoration of a centuries-old country house in the French Périgord: just as in all the other projects, it demonstrates the creative brio with which Belgian architects and interior designers – both at home and abroad – achieve exceptional results. |
